if jesus drove a motorhome

Saw Jim White play in Oxford on Wednesday, now found a little video by Zach Passero of this song of his:

Poor guy had ended up being booked to play the Zodiac, now mangled into the Carling Academy Zodiac, a multiplex music machine, and Jim was stuck in the small rooom, a hallway with a bar, and had to rush through the quiet songs before 1000 sweaty adolescents poured into the neighbouring room for mindless throbbing sound from NIK TURNER'S SPACE RITUAL. Great gig by Jim and his two cronies. He says it's easy to play in Europe, you just mention Bush and get a laugh. True, too easy still (in US too I suppose, see the youtube video). By the end, after great tunes, silly tunes, and eccentric stories shared with genuine warmth, we were all singing along to the chorus of 'A bar is just a church where they serve beer'. Amen to that, brother. Just a shame this Carling bar didn't serve any proper beer. Then the side wall opened and incorporated us - at 10pm! - into the kids' disco and Jim was scrambling to pick up his leads and his Japanese drummer.

it's getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes

yes, that is Nelly, perhaps boring into your ears all day now (It's getting hot in here, so take off all clothes), and brought in here because hiphop swagger is a good antidote to too much poetry. you with me? only if we've forgotten Villon - and what about Villon in Stephen Rodefer's translations? here's Rodefer reading, his straightup delivery a million miles from the Poetry Please school of readers, and wait till he gets to the last poem. it's getting hot.
